“No Child Sits on the Sidelines”

The 6th annual Run for Bob Family Fun 5K Run/Walk will be taking place on Saturday, October 2nd at 431 Washington Street in Franklin.  Registration opens at 9:00 a.m. and will end at 9:45.  The run begins at 10:00, with the walk following shortly after at 10:15.  Run for Bob began in October of 2005 in memory of Bob Biagiotti, who passed away unexpectedly a few months earlier.  Bob was remembered by his family and friends for his passion for competing in 5K races with his disabled daughter, Kayla Biagiotti.  Bob pushed Kayla in a racing stroller and was greatly supported by his wife and brother, who ran alongside them.  Dick and Rick Hoyt were an inspiration to Bob in his decision to run with Kayla.  The Hoyts, who came to Franklin High School last year, attended the Run for Bob in October 2008.  They strive to make others aware of their initiative to integrate physically disabled students.  Similarly, the primary goal of Run for Bob is to provide funding and services for the inclusion of children of all abilities.  Special needs students are able to walk with their peers and share the experience of actively participating in a community event.  The proceeds of Run for Bob support the Best Buddies Franklin Chapter and the Hockomock YMCA Bernon Family Branch’s Reach Out for Youth and Families Scholarship program.  Participate on October 2nd to help benefit these organizations and create a memorable experience for everyone!
