Powder Puff Football is Coming!

You may ask, what in the world is Powder Puff? The answer to that is simple: it is a chance for female students to show their skills in a friendly, yet competitive, game of touch football, which will take place here at FHS on the 21st of this month.

There will be four teams competing for the honor of winning the title “Powder Puff Champs”: Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen. At 11:30 on the 21st, the games will begin with the seniors versus the sophomores, and then at 11:50, the juniors will face the freshmen. The championship game with the winners of the first two games will commence at 12:10, where the champion will be determined. Officers Grover and Spillane will referee.

In order to be on a team, all girls intending to play MUST attend at least one practice, which will be held right after school on November 7th, 10th, and 15th. At these practices, girls will sign their names to a team roster if they find that they desire to play. Other practices may be arranged by male student coaches.

The primary purpose for these in-school practices is to review rules and go over contracts. Mr. Folan will be running the meetings, and the participating girls will get the rules, which must be signed, along with the contract.

In the contract, players will find that the punishment for misconduct has been changed from previous years. Now, a single misconduct results in the entire team being disqualified, while in previous years, four total misconducts resulted a disqualification.

Despite all of the steps required in order to actually play, the event is intended to be enjoyed. “I was one of the coaches last year,” says sophomore Amanda Farnan. “It was a lot of fun!”

A general knowledge of the rules of football may be helpful, but if you are unfamiliar and still want to play, rules will be reviewed at practices. Each team is allowed nine players on offense, and nine on defense, with four linemen, one quarterback, and one running back on offense, and at least three linemen on defense. Seeing as positions on the teams are limited, sign up soon!
