On December 21-22, Franklin High School Theater department will be hosting a play One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.

The play originates from a very famous novel by Ken Kessey in 1959.

The novel is based on the study of the mental institutional process, the human mind, and as well as the study of human behavior and celebration of humanistic principles.

Time magazine included the novel One Flew Over The Coco’s Nest in its 100 Best- English-Language Novels from 1923-2005.

In 1963, Dale Wasserman directed a Broadway play based on the novel. In 1975, Bo Goldman adapted the novel to a play directed by Milos Forman.

Ricky Thorn, a senior at FHS, plays “Cheswisk”, one of the  patients in the novel, he said,

“The play is going to be great. I am hoping that many people will come to see it”.

I asked Rick, what were his thoughts about the casting of the play? he answered that,

The casting was great. I am very happy for the role I got in the play. I never thought I could get one of the big roles”.

Mrs. Waters, FHS Theater Teacher, added

“The play is great. The only advantage was the casting of the actors. In the play there are more male character than female which made it impossible for most great female actors to be in the play”.

I asked Mrs. Waters, FHS, why did she choose doing this play. She answered,

“The FA students who read the book last year, they ended loving the book very much that they asked me if we could do a play based on the book this year”.

Haley Medeiros, Toni Marinella, and Casey brogan, juniors at FHS, who also worked on the setting for the play, said

“The entire stt is breath taking. We cannot wait to see the play”.

Meghan Pradko, a senior at FHS, commented

“I cannot wait to see the play because it is going to be phenomenon since Aaron Gosch and Michaela Lonati are fabulous actors”.
