Travis Roy’s Inspiration Coming to FHS for Class of 2014

A few weeks from now, May 30th, after the seniors last final, Travis Roy will be coming to FHS lecture hall to speak to the Class of 2014.

This is not just any other assembly that we’ve had throughout our four years at Franklin High. I believe this is something that will change the way you think for the better.

Travis Roy is a story or tragedy but more a success story as well.

His whole life his dream was to play hockey at Boston University. His dream finally came true when he took the ice as a freshman at BU, but 11 seconds into his first shift Roy slammed into the boards awkwardly and broke his neck, paralyzing him from the neck down for the rest of his life.

Travis’ immediate reactions to what had happened was sort or like why him. He had worked so hard to get to where he was and to make the team and then to start the season opener but then to have it all taken away from him just like that. He felt like he was cheated and did not want to go on.

Roy’s story is all about getting up after being knocked down. It is an incredible story that will be great to hear for seniors about to go on to college and other things after high school is over.
