Is Dance A Sport?

One hundred students and faculty from Franklin High School were asked for their opinion on the controversy over dance being a sport. 80% of them said yes, 10% said no, and 10% said it was dependent based on competitiveness. Click Here to watch the video.

Although many people still debate whether dance is a sport, the argument is becoming less controversial by the year. Athletic companies had been promoting the “stereotypical” sports in their advertisements until 2014 when Under Armour started their “I Will What I Want” campaign featuring professional ballerina, Misty Copeland. In 2011, Gatorade started to include dancers as athletes in their commercials with the football players and track runners.
