S.O.S. Club Out To Promote Positive Mental Health

Nora Kennedy, Writer

The student-led S.O.S. club is on a mission to help the students of FHS and promote positive mental health. The original idea came from Junior student Emily Hamilton.

According to future club member Erica Brown, the purpose of the club is to raise awareness on all forms of abuse and harassment.

The inspiration for the S.O.S. club came from an online video spreading hateful messages that circulated in the past. The club is already on its way to creation.

The school’s Guidance Counselors are on board with the idea, and so is Mr. Peri. He believes it is a wonderful idea and it should be worked towards getting started. At the same time, he believes it’s important not to step on the counselor’s toes and keep the club steady.

Since the school year is coming to an end, the club is hoping to have six meetings before summer, and then they will be up and running at the beginning of next year.

Emily Hamilton wanted to start the club as a way to help students become more comfortable with discussing mental health, and to create an open and honest environment. There are already some ideas underway for activities, one of which is to grow a club bonsai tree.
