Vampire Weekend’s Contra Review

Contra, released in January of 2010, is the second album of the New York City Indie Rock group Vampire Weekend. Vampire Weekend is known by its fans to use unconventional instruments in their music. Instruments like the hand drum, violin, flute, and organ give the band a sound of their own. Unlike their first album, Vampire Weekend, the band does not focus on New England landmarks but more on a fun, upbeat sound and story. The music itself is just as good, if not better, than the debut album (which I highly recommend to fans of bands like Matt & Kim, Death Cab for Cutie, and The Fratellis). Vampire Weekend gives you a refreshed look on your day and puts a tune in your head for the rest of the day. Its most popular song, Giving Up the Gun, brings out a new type of sound about changes in life that is refreshingly different than the popular negative look. I highly recommend listening to this album if upbeat tunes and a band out of the mainstream are in your interests!
