Whitney Houston: An Icon

Sunday, February 12, 2012, an international icon of soul and R&B sadly passed away.

Named Guinness Book of World Record‘s most awarded female performer of all time, Whitney Houston was a major embodiment of popular American music. Her name is synonymous with classic soul music.

However, Whitney was much more than just an ordinary singer. She was also an actress, a model, a film producer, a songwriter, and a humanitarian. As one of the world’s best-selling music artists, she sold over 170 million albums, singles, and music videos worldwide.

At the pinnacle of her career, she had accumulated 415 awards, including 2 Emmy awards, 6 Grammy awards, and 22 AMAs, among countless others. She is also the only artist in history to have released 7 consecutive #1 Billboard Hot 100 hits.

Whitney died Sunday morning of unknown causes that are currently under investigation. Unfortunately, we lost an incredible musician and personality this weekend, but her legacy will live on for years to come. Whitney, you will be greatly missed.
