Franklin Music Program Brings Home the MICCA Gold

Kendyl Ryan

Over the first weekend in April, Franklin High School’s music programs performed at a state wide competition, MICCA (Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association). Franklin High School’s Orchestra earned silver, while the Repertory Orchestra walked away with gold.

“Last year the rep orchestra got a silver, and we were all disappointed, so this year we worked a lot harder to prove to everyone that we could achieve gold” said Abi Gipson, a viola player part of the  Repertory Orchestra.

The orchestra played pieces including Ave Verum Corpus by Mozart, Cello Concerto by Haydn (with Domenic Narducci as the soloist) and Lyric Metal by Balmages.

Additionally, the wind ensemble earned silver.

Trumpet player Matt Dao, who is part of the wind ensemble and orchestra, said “It’s great to have the ability to perform for a panel and have them give feedback on the ensembles”

“Also, it takes a lot of time and hard work to get the pieces of music ready for the festival, but in the end you can enjoy the moment on stage performing” Matt added.

Congratulations to all those who competed!
