Who would open up a donut shop in a pandemic? It isn’t such a crazy idea for Christina Larson, owner of the newly opened Basic Batch donut shop down in Milford, MA.

Despite the challenge, Basic Batch is widely raved about online both on their Facebook and Instagram, and sells out daily with people lining up each day to grab a dozen.

Basic Batch’s donuts are handmade from scratch each day, and sell out fast. Both frequent customers and Basic Batch’s website will tell you that you had best get there early to get the best selection.

There is an overwhelming variety to choose from as well. Basic Batch boasts extremely unique flavors, Blueberry Cake, Maple Bacon, donuts inspired by candies, cereals, and even PB&J sandwiches. The menu changes up often, new and unpredictable donuts coming and going. Their brand new flavor, Crème Brûlée is a vanilla cream pastry covered in a hardened sugar glaze that makes a crisp crack once you bite down.

How did these donuts become so sought after? The chef behind it, Larson graduated from Johnson and Wales with a baking degree, and was a pastry chef in Boston. Inspired by her love of donuts and other morning pastries, Basic Batch started out as a pop up around the city of Boston, a side project of Larson’s. When the pandemic hit in March, she was laid off from her job as a pastry chef, and took it as a sign to pursue her dream further.

After earning widespread appraisal and support from Boston Magazine as well as Eater, Basic Batch is now a reality right in Milford, MA, and you can go get a taste anywhere from Wednesday-Sunday.
