Will Franklin See More School Time?

A new proposal has been initiated in 5 different states to increase the time in school by at least 300 hours. Among these states are Colorado, Tennessee, New York, Connecticut, and finally Massachusetts.

According to CBS Boston “The three-year pilot program will affect almost 20,000 students in 40 schools, with long-term hopes of expanding the program to include additional schools”.

Officials  wish to do this in the hopes of keeping schools in Massachusetts a competitive player in education.

“I think it’s a dumb idea because kids won’t want to learn if more hours are added to the school year, its going to stink for underclassmen like me” Said freshman Joe Corsi.

“I feel that we do need more school hours and we need to be more competitive with other schools”. Said Library Technician Ms. Hardenburg. She also went on to say how teachers should be compensated more with the increase in class time”.

“I just feel bad for everyone who’s not a senior because they are going to be screwed” Said senior Brenna Spolidoro

Whether or not Franklin’s school system will be one of the many schools in the region to increase time in class has still yet to be decided. Although some may see this as a good thing, many people, especially students, will not be happy about this decision.
