Do high school students play too many video games?

With popular new titles such as Halo 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, and Assassin’s Creed III being released it’s time to ask the age old question, are high school students spending too much time playing video games?

A study in 2010 shows that “The prevalence of problematic gaming is low but not insignificant, and problematic gaming may be contained within a larger spectrum of externalizing behaviors.”

“No way” argued FHS junior Colin Barry when asked if he thinks gaming is a problem for high school students.

“Some kids might get a little addicted at some point, but I don’t think its a real problem for any high school students” said Barry who would go on to say “I like playing Xbox to relax and unwind.”

While some students see no problem with playing video games, others disagree .

“I think it’s a waste of time” said FHS student Matt Stevens

“They’re so many other things you could be doing other than ‘killing noobs’ online” said Stevens who believes “people should spend more time outside and with friends” rather than online with a controller in hand.

So what do you think? Are high school students spending too much time playing video games?

How many hours a day do you play video games?
