Met Ball 2014: The Best

On Monday night, some of Hollywood’s top style icons headed to New York City for one of fashions biggest events of the year, the Met Ball. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour hosts the Costume Institute Gala, along with Sarah Jessica Parker and Bradley Cooper as co- hosts.

This year’s forties and fifties glitz and glamour theme is in honor of the late Charles James– “America’s First Couturier”. Attendees were encouraged to follow the classic theme- in hopes of seeing guests in sophisticated attire.

Controversy has stirred over who wore what and who wore it better- and here are the Top five best dressed of the night.

In the gallery above, click to expand the five best dressed are featured.

First up is Blake Lively– easily the best dressed of the night. Lively looked effortlessly glamorous, as always, in her custom made Gucci Prèmiere gown.

Rhianna also stole the show in her custom made Stella McCartney matching kit. The top and skirt complemented her figure, as well as portrayed her individual style while still following the night’s white tie theme.

As co-chair of fashions biggest night- Sarah Jessica Parker graced the red carpet once again with her presence. Clad in a custom Oscar de la Renta gown, Parker promoted the designer by wearing his label on the back of the gown (some say its tacky, but SJP can pull it off).

The young Hailee Steinfeld blew critics away with her sheer elegance. The 17- year old wore a Prabal Gurung gown accessorized with Van Cleef and Arpels jewelry.

Last but not least- Victoria’s Secret model Karlie Kloss took a darker spin on the Charles James theme. Wearing an Oscar de la Renta autumn/winter 2014 gown, the model definitely brought glitz to the red carpet.
