Diversity Awareness Club’s Perspective on President Biden

A mere month and a half into his presidency, President Biden supporters are starting to question their stance on the 46th President of the United States.

Pantherbook reached out to members of FHS’s Diversity Awareness Club to get a better look on how some students feel about his performance so far.

Campaign Promises

One FHS student believes that “Biden is a liar and did not follow through on campaign promises”

Biden made some pretty big and complex campaign promises including bringing together democrats and republicans and providing economic relief for families, schools, and businesses. He also promised to raise the federal minimum wage to 15$ an hour.

Military Action

Students say they absolutely do not support Biden’s decision to bomb Syria. The Biden Administration sent out a bomb raid to Syria in retaliation to an attack on a US-led coalition base in Northern Iraq. This has been seen as a very controversial attack on both sides of the aisle, as Congress did not have prior knowledge or approval of this attack. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Connecticut) responded to the attacks saying, “Congress should hold this administration to the same standard it did prior administrations, and require clear legal justifications for military action, especially inside theaters like Syria, where Congress has not explicitly authorized any American military action,”

Climate

Members are happy to see that Biden rejoined the US into the World Health Organization and the Paris Climate Agreement. They also believe that if he follows through with campaign promises and his decisions, he would make the US better and that his choices could have long lasting effects.

Despite the current majority in the senate and the democratic president, students are concerned that the power may shift back into conservative hands in the next elections. One student said, “People are already so mad about Trump losing and Biden breaking promises that people are going to bring back conservatives.” This student also expressed their disappointment by saying, “This is upsetting, I just wish we had a president we can really trust.”

One student expressed their opinion on President Biden saying, “When we said Settle for Biden, we settled hard.
