Girls Lacrosse Move On

Entering the tourniment hopes were high for the strong senior filled Franklin girls lacrosse team. Now, after their first win in the tourniment, the girls dreams of a state championship grow. Senior Heather Grove scored three goals and two assists and Sarah Doherty scored three as Franklin rolled over New Bedford 15-1. Defeating their first match up Coach Schmidt, head coach of the team, says he was “very pleased with the result” and can see his girls progressing through the tournament.

Last year their championship hopes were crushed by the strong Wellesley team who this year is ranked number 4, just above the Panthers. The Panthers face Wellesley again in their next game hoping to get revenge and continue on in the tournament.

Coach Schmidt says “it will be a very tough match up against the team that knocked us out last year” hoping for “an even game between the number four and five seeds”. However, having coached many of these girls over the years he has “the confidence that they will come out and play the best game they can”.

With graduation approaching, this will come as a tough game to handle for the seniors of the team. Yet Franklin Panthers never quit and the girls lacrosse team will come out fighting ready to make their season last as long as possible.
