Terry Fancona Out-Epstein next?

Red Sox manager Terry Francona officially took the hit for the Sox’s downfall on Friday. This seems to be the first of what will be quite a few changes to the team after a humiliating 7-20 September. Although the press is receiving very neutral comments from the staff, Francona was fired. We Sox fans could definitely use a breath of fresh air, but was it worth getting rid of our manager of 8 years, including 2 World Series? Francona said that he felt he did not have the support of ownership. Owner John Henry may have used this scramble for change as an opportunity to finally get rid of Francona. Do keep in mind that Francona is relieved after the season he just managed. There was a lot of frustration on his part with the problem of drinking during games and functioning as a team.

Now, there is word that General Manager Theo Epstein is considering going to the Cubs. After the epic collapse, it is understandable. He does still have a year left on his contract though, so other rectifications will be made before that.

We Boston Fans are trying to keep our chins up. With the Patriots off to a good start and the Bruins’ Stanley Cup in our pockets, our Sox are the only imperfection it seems. Hopefully, 2012 will be a new story and the discipline and team issues of the Red Sox will be nonexistent by then.
