Boys Soccer Loss

With the end of the season winding down the Panthers played the Greater New Bedford Bears in the second round of the state tournament. Last year the Franklin boys played them in the second round as well, beating the at the time number two seed to advance to the next round.

This year the Bears were ranked number one and faced our number 16 panthers. The Panthers, who were hockomock champs this season, looked strong as the game progressed. With out captains Reed Turgeon and Zach Scafatti the Panthers lacked the strength and skill they once had. Fighting for a second year of victory over the Bears, the boys went hard and kept the score to a 0-0 tie.

Late in the second half the Bears put one past the Franklin defense. Consisting of Seniors Travis LePage and Ryan Maietta and Juniors Brad Holt and Eric Hall, the boys looked strong until this one mistake occurred.

Most teams would have given up, letting the number one seed coast to the end, but the Panthers fought hard and never gave up. Yet, after a numerous amount of yellow cards and a red card for Junior Matty Mo, the Panthers lost, ending the season in a 1-0 loss to the Bears.

The season was great, with a hock championship and a win over Attleboro in the state tourniment at home, the seniors can look back and be pround. All ten seniors for the Franklin Soccer team will be missed but next year is looking good with many strong juniors returning to play.
