Franklin Boys On Top

Over vacation the Franklin Varsity Boys Track team ran at the Division 1 State meet and the All-State elite meet. The boys ran and dominated both days, setting records and bringing a new name to Franklin track.

Last weekend they competed at the Division 1 meet in Boston. Senior Andrew Hood ran the mile placing 6th in Division 1 with a time of 4:26.  Paul O’Donoghue ran the 600m placing 10th with a time of 1:24. Connor Wardrop, a Franklin high junior ran the 55m dash placing 33rd with a time of 6.96. However, the stand outs of the day were the boys relay teams. The 4 by 2oo, lead by Connor Donahue, Ryan Maietta, Anirudh Singh, and Connor Wardrop placed 6th, sending them to All-states and setting a new school record in the event. The boys of the 4 by 400 also ran at the meet, setting a new school record as well and placing 3rd in Division 1, moving on to All-states. The team, also lead by Connor Donahue, consisted of Andrew Hood, Paul O’Donoghue, and Tom Sameski.

Yesterday the boys relay teams competed against the top 24 kids across the state in the All-state elite meet in Boston. The 4 by 200 team ran great, placing 7th overall in the state. Yet again the 4 by 400 team, with new addition Steve Pareace instead of Sameski, reset their school record. They ran a 3:26, with senior captain Connor Donahue running a 50.5 in the final leg of the race. This allowed the boys to qualify for New England’s this coming Friday, and they only need 7 tenths of a second less to qualify for the Nike Nationals in New York City next week.

Overall the boys surprised the field and set new school records, showing MA how Franklin fights.
