GARDEN BOUND

A hard fought weekend for the Franklin Hockey Team resulted in consecutive playoff victories, and what a weekend it was. With much to prove and yet so much to lose, the team managed to pull together and is now headed back to the garden for a second year in a row.

Friday: First, top seeded Franklin had to face no. 4 seeded OA for the South Sectional Semifinal title. With four different players scoring goals (Evan Starwarz, Ryan Garland, Jake Sargeant, Adam Hall), the team coasted to a 4-1 victory. The celebration was shortly forgotten and the team had set a new goal; beat no. 3 seeded Mansfield.

Sunday: Heading towards the Gallo Arena, the team had high confidence and visions of a garden bound bus. Starting strong, Cam Curley put the team up by one followed by a goal from senior captain Nick Bertoni. Mansfield shortly answered back, but it wasn’t enough to silence Franklin. Aidan Isberg, Adam Hall and Ryan Garland’s added goals cemented the 5-3 victory over Mansfield.

Suddenly images of last years Garden upset flashed through the minds of the coaches, players and fans all around. The team, with hard sought out victories behind them, now have one single goal to accomplish.

Motivation. Ambition. Champions. These are the words that define our hockey team; but will this be enough to lead Franklin to its first Divisional II Championship win since 1983?

The date, Sunday March 18th.
The place, TD Banknorth Garden.
The mission, become legendary.

One Team. One Goal. One Heartbeat.
