Franklin Girls Beat Stoughton 45-40

On Friday, Franklin girls basketball beat Stoughton, 45-40 in a close game.

Both teams went into the game with a 4-1 record. The win tied the girls with Oliver Ames in the Hockomock league standings.

It was a tough win. Stoughton led in the first quarter but by the end of the half, Franklin had regained the lead.

Through out the third quarter Franklin was able to keep a 5 to 10 points ahead but by the end of the forth, Stoughton was trailing by only one point.

In the end, Franklin’s Lexi Martin, a sophomore, made the layup that brought Franklin ahead in the last three minutes.

“It was way too close for comfort” Senior Kaitlin Copponi told me “It was a very frustrating game. A lot of our shots weren’t following.”

“The last quarter was a foul shooting game” said Coach Leighton “but I thought we played tough defensively”

Fouls were called on both sides but some calls were considered controversial.

“We just have to forget about the refs” Copponi said “Those are the kind of things we cannot control”

In the end panthers came out on top. The girls’ next home game is on Friday at 6:30.
