Getting to know your Red Sox future all-stars: Yoan Moncada

Nicholas Burgos

The Red Sox have landed probably one of the biggest prospect signings this winter, Cuban superstar, Yoan Moncada, for $30 million. Moncada has drawn interest from most MLB teams and for good reason. While playing for Los Cienfuegos he batted .277 average .388 OBP .380 SLG. Those numbers don’t really stand out but he was playing in a league where the average player was ten years older than him. Yoan started playing for Los Cienfuegos at age 17 and at 19 has inked a $30 million dollar deal with the Red Sox.

At age 19 I do not expect him to make his way into the Majors at anytime this year. However, if he can prove his skills in the minors then I believe we can expect to see him in two or three years. He has been compared to fellow Cubans Yasiel Puig and Jorge Soler.

This a huge signing for the Red Sox because they need more top 10 prospects and they got it in Moncada.
