Lady Panthers: A Successful Season

The girls basketball team had a great season, advancing to the Division I MA Finals. Although they lost, the Division Finals were as far as any team has ever advanced.

Head coach Mr. Leighton believes the girls were so successful because everyone worked to reach their potential and because “each girl sacrificed for the good of the team.” He also gave credit to seniors Allie Either, Julianne Pisani, Tracy Pisani, Jillian Spolidoro and Lexi Martin for helping to make depth and balance the team’s greatest strength.

The strength of the team came from the collective contributions from everyone. “No one player can be successful without their teammates,” said Leighton.

The girls had 19 wins and six losses with several key games.

The most key game was a loss to Braintree, the undefeated defending state champions. Because of this game, Leighton said: “we realized that we can hang with any team in the state.”

The next key game was the team’s Senior Night against Mansfield. If Franklin had not won, Mansfield could have had the chance to win the league.

The last key game was against Holy Name at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Although they beat the team last year, the girls were able to play a great defensive game and win.
