The Franklin Softball team is preparing for their return to action.

Girls softball tryouts for Franklin High School are right around the corner! With the pandemic still in place, there will be some modifications made to assure a successful and healthy season.

As of right now, softball is considered a moderate risk sport. Players are expected to wear face masks and social distance as much as possible.

Spectators are still allowed to observe from behind the fence. However, they still have to be socially distanced from other families and wear their masks as well.

During games, dugouts are allowed to be utilized but teammates have to maintain six feet of space and gum and sunflower seeds are prohibited.

Sportsmanship will look a little different this year. In previous seasons, players were allowed to give highfives or fistbumps to their competition, but this year a simple, “Good game!” will have to do.

To prepare for tryouts, captains practices have been occurring every Sunday for the past few weeks at Brand New Ballgame in Wrentham. On Monday, April 26, tryouts will be held to determine which of the three teams the athletes could make. Freshman Sammy Barbato says that she is really looking forward to playing outside again and she is excited for tryouts.

Even though it won’t be a normal softball season this year, players are making the best of what they have. Yes, best case scenario would be no modifications at all, but Sammy is still thrilled to compete in general.
