Buzzing Off For a Cause

Franklin High seniors Max Rosen and Chris Regan hosted a Buzz Off fundraiser at the school on May 1st as their National Honor Society service project.
The money raised over the past few weeks totaled over $500 and was all donated to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. The ticket sales for both teams of teachers wended in a tie, meaning that all the teachers who volunteered had to shave their hair.
Of the thirteen teachers who participated, Max noted their overall positive demeanor. When setting up the fundraiser, he claimed that many teachers volunteered when they heard about it and the faculty as a whole was willing to help out.
This fundraiser, while inspired by similar events held by the Patriots and the Bruins, was more meaningful to Max.
Max explains; “My mom has had terminal cancer for three and a half years and I needed to do an NHS service project, so I decided to do it in line with cancer research because that’s pretty personal to me”.
Judging by Max’s rhetoric and the atmosphere on the day of the fundraiser, this service project was a success in both bringing the FHS community together and raising money for a worthy cause.
Students were very amused by this event, and appreciative towards the cause donations were going towards.
Sophomore Rhiannon Towne said it was “funny to see how different [the teachers] look.”
Sophomore Evelyn Simmons agrees and adds, “it’s amazing to see what they’re willing to do for the whole cause.”
Other students, such as Mitchell Taylor, felt the event was “pretty radical”.
Sophie Kripp, sophomore, described the event as “invigorating, inspiring, and really cool to see other staff members supporting local community.”
