Another Successful Harvest Festival!

Another Successful Harvest Festival!

Eleanor Bavey, Writer

The 17th annual Franklin Harvest Festival was the biggest one to date with an attendance of about 8,000 people. Over 160 vendors and stands lined the streets in downtown Franklin, selling their wares and/or advertising their company.

The Franklin Harvest Festival is an event that has been operating since 2002 and is run by the Franklin Downtown Partnership. The bustling activity took place on East Central Street, on Saturday, October 5. This event has been well-loved by Franklin citizens for years, including Franklin High School student Mikaela Schultz. She spoke about her experience and opinion about the Harvest Festival.

“I really liked the inclusivity of it all. There was something for everybody,” she said.

Lots of Franklin High School students volunteer at the Harvest Festival as it is a good way to get community service hours for the school quota. However, many students volunteer because the Harvest Festival is a good childhood memory for them and they want to be a part of that for others.

“I’ve been going ever since I was little, but this year there were so many more things I was aware of,” Mikaela said.

“I volunteered this year which was definitely a fun new experience,” she added.

A feature of the Harvest Festival put on by the Black Box was their own take on the German festival of Oktoberfest. They provided German food, drink, and even hired an Oompah Band.

The annual Harvest Festival has activities and entertainment for anyone, no matter their age or interests, and is a popular attraction for many Franklin citizens.
