I believe that students should be able to leave school during lunch. Lunch period should be an extend period in which students have the choice to stay in the cafeteria and eat lunch or leave school grounds to eat. There was some talk of this happening for the schedule change last year but it was either just rumors or it just never fell through. It would have been a good addition to the schedule.

It would give students more freedom and give them the opportunity to leave school and get outside instead of being cooped up inside all day. Although I can see why the administration would not want this change, people would be returning late and making up excuses that there was no parking or that there was a line at the restaurant. In order to fix this they could give a certain time to be back in school or have a check in and out system (like the SDLP program has) and anyone who is not in the building at the designated time will be given a detention without questions asked.

They could at least try this out for some time and if it doesn’t work out then stop doing it. Maybe towards the end of the school year they could try it out because people are still trying to get used to the new schedule. It might be a long shot and probably would not get passed by the administration but it wouldn’t hurt to try something new.
