Bring It On, Prom

Believe it or not, Prom 2016 is already here! This Friday, May 8, the FHS prom will be held at Lombardo’s in Randolph from 7-11 pm for the Class of 2016.

The Class of 2014’s prom was held at Lombardo’s as well. The venue is most known for its spiral staircase and for housing the largest crystal chandelier in New England.

“Lombardo’s was a really good place to have prom because it had a lot of beautiful opportunities for photographs,” said Jeffrey Roy Jr., a Class of 2014 graduate. “The whole place in general was just a nice, classy atmosphere that I appreciated.”

lombardos-resized-600This year’s prom will have almost 700 students in attendance, largely due to people choosing to take students in grades other than the junior class as their dates.

When asked about the size of this year’s attendance, junior and newly-elected Student Government President Julie Harrington said, “The more the merrier!”

As for other students’ thoughts, junior Jimmy Robbins has simple and optimistic expectations, saying, “I’m looking forward to having a good night with some friends.”

Emily Mariano and Sam Campbell, both juniors, have more worries about the upcoming night. Sam said, “The amount of stress is outweighing the potential amount of fun I could be looking forward to.”

Why is this the case? Sam and Emily believe that girls have more to stress about in terms of prom than boys do. Emily said that “[girls] have to worry about finding a dress, how to do their hair, how to do their makeup, what shoes to wear… And the girl is the one who really picks out the tie [to match her dress] so honestly, the guys have nothing to worry about.”

Guests are not the only ones who feel the pre-prom anxiety. Class advisors, student government members, and prom committee members have to dedicate a great deal of time into making the night possible and fun.

Come May 8th at 7 pm, all the stress will subside as everyone dances the night away!
