Sydney Hawkins in the Franklin Girls Varsity Lacrosse game against Foxboro

Sydney Hawkins can be described in one word: dedicated

Sydney is a senior at FHS and has recently committed to MIT. She will be studying biological engineering and playing lacrosse.

Pantherbook reached out to Sydney to learn more about this impressive commitment.

Sydney has been playing lacrosse since she was in the first grade. She has played for many teams, including Gold Star Lacrosse and Franklin Varsity Girls Lacrosse. Lacrosse has always been a huge part of her life, as her whole extended family plays. Sydney has always considered playing lacrosse in college, but she recently decided it was what she wanted.

Sydney recently announced her commitment to MIT, a school with an average acceptance rate of 6.7%. She chose to stay closer to home after COVID-19 hit, but plans on doing an internship abroad once travel restrictions are lifted. MIT has been her goal since freshman year, and she is excited for their abundance of opportunities and their collaborative environment. She is looking forward to meeting her teammates and taking part in research opportunities.

Her time at FHS has clearly been well spent, as she participated in Cross Country, Track, and Lacrosse throughout her four years here. Sydney communicated that she will miss her friends from Franklin and is grateful for her role models, including her freshman year cross country and track captain, Nicole Clermont.
