Nicole Donahue
Girl Up meets weekly on Mondays after school.

Girl Up, one of the most popular clubs at FHS, was created to bring awareness to women across the globe

Senior Nicole Donahue, the president of Girl Up, says being an officer for three years made her have a deeper understanding about human rights and need to be talked about for our community as teen girls. Donahue says it was a happy accident on how she became an officer, but she is very glad it did.

The club, created by Samiha Ro in 2016, started out as a passion project. Little did Ro know that the new club would develop into something bigger. Franklin High School has been able to offer a safe space where individuals regardless of their gender identity who would like to join the club are able to talk as a group about important issues

In addition to Donahue, the representatives of Girl Up are Vice President Alex Batla, Treasurer Sabrina Tierney, Secretary Julia Atwood, and PR Officer Ava Workman

Donahue says there is nothing super crazy right now about the club, but they’re trying to go on field trips and raise money for women’s education in underdeveloped countries.

The club meets every Monday from 2:15 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Project Room 226
