After almost 30 years, the Sanderson Sisters returned to Salem in the long-awaited movie Hocus Pocus 2.

Overview

Hocus Pocus 2 is about two teenage girls, Izzy (Whitney Peak) and Becca (Belissa Escobedo), in modern-day Salem and their adventure on Halloween night. It’s been over 2 decades since the Black Flame Candle has been lit until the two best friends accidentally bring back the legendary Sanderson Sisters, who then wreak havoc on the town. To save Salem, Becca and Izzy must return the witches to where they came from. But in order to do so, they must prevent the witches from performing a spell that keeps them alive forever. Watch the movie to find out whether or not Becca and Izzy can successfully get rid of the witches!

Ratings

An honest review of Hocus Pocus 2 is a 6/10. It is a good movie to watch with family but doesn’t have much depth to the storyline. There were a few musical scenes that were entertaining and unexpected, but overall a predictable family Halloween movie.

Comparison to Original

The original Hocus Pocus came out in 1993, so there have been quite a few changes to the Salem setting. Another difference was the singing, I did not expect The Witches Are Back choreographed musical number as our reintroduction to the sisters! Surprisingly, the main characters, Winifred, Sarah, and Mary look almost identical to 29 years ago. but many new characters were introduced to create a different story. Even so, with minor changes, the same type of Halloween tale was told which may be nostalgic for some, but also disappointing and repetitive.
