SAGA Has New Club Officers

Claire Rochford, Writer

LGBTQ+ club has some new club officers. SAGA stands for Sexual Awareness Gender Awareness. It is also known as the LGBTQ+ club at Franklin High School.

Sydney Lincourt, sophomore, the new Vice president of the club shared some of her opinions on the club and the community surrounding it.

Before you are elected you have to make a speech in front of the whole club. She thought that had to do with why she got elected. She said she most likely got elected because she had a solid speech and she had friends in the club that voted for her.

People join SAGA for different reasons. She said a big reason she joined the club was being gay is hard and SAGA gives people a place to feel welcome and it really helped with school. Last year since there wasn’t a club fair Sydney had to go onto the school website and that is how she found out about the club.

In the past, the club officers had something they wanted to accomplish that year. She said with her as a club officer she wants to do more fundraising and spread more awareness around the school.

Some people look up to people in the LGBTQ+ community and enjoy watching. Some LGBTQ+ people she looks up to/like are Sydney Sweeney (actress), Sarah Schauer (YouTuber), and Hunter Schafer (actress and model) as a few.

People usually need a reason to join a club. She said some good reasons to join the club were that it’s a great community, the club plays fun games, they talk about issues in the LGBTQ+ community, and etc.

There are a lot of misconceptions surrounding the LGBTQ+ community in Franklin High School, and she said there are a lot of assumptions. For example, not everyone who is gay wants to date you. People shouldn’t be treated any differently because of their gender and sexual orientation.

SAGA is a safe space for people to be who they want to be, who are scared of being judged, and for people who want to learn more about the LGBTQ+ Community.
